The Greater Silicon Valley

No, it is not Western Nevada County, it is the Northern San Joaquin Valley. The communities of Lathrop, Lodi, Manteca, Stockton, Tracy and others are rebranding their region “The Greater Silicon Valley”.

The December issue of Comstock’s has a feature article on how the region is building the needed infrastructure, housing and business parks. Their targets are Silicon Valley companies which maybe looking for lower cost locations to expand or relocate that are with in commuting distance to the real Silicon Valley.

The Greater Silicon Valley is connected to the real Silicon Valley by Interstates 205 and 580, and by the Altamont Corridore Express running four round trips daily between Stockton and San Jose. The region also ahas access to broadband communications, including business fiber optic connections through Level 3 Communications.

Why should Nevada County be interested in what the folks in the Northern San Joaquin Valley are doing to make themselves more attractive to Silicon Valley companies? They are powerful competitors for the very same companies that the ERC is interested in attracting to our community.

I recommend that all Nevada County’s leaders read this Comstock’s article for some insight into were our competitors are investing and their strategies for winning.  Sorry, no digital link yet, the December just land in my inbox.
