Sea Level Rise Has Paused

Editors Note:  Title was changed from Stopped to Paused.

It appears that sea level rise started declining in early 2016 and has continued as the snowpack piles up in Greenland, Antarctic and Sierra.

Here is a more detailed look at the decline.

It looks like it is time for the STATE OF CALIFORNIA SEA-LEVEL RISE GUIDANCE DOCUMENT to be updated once again. Originally published in 2010 and updated in 2013. This report was developed the Coastal and Ocean Working Group of the California Climate Action Team (CO-CAT), with science support provided by the Ocean Protection Council’s Science Advisory Team and the California Ocean Science Trust.

Look at this chart from the report, how credible is it?

This article is extremely misleading – you’re willing to quote a little over 12 months data from a 14 year dataset to justify the conclusion that sea level rise has stopped?

We’ve seen similar ‘pauses’ during the period Jun 2010 – April 2011, and other points along the complete graph, but low-and-behold after a short pause, the rising sea level trend continues. It’s ludicrous to draw a conclusion to say sea level rise has stopped based on such a small percentage of the data.

You are right, it is just a pause unless the pause continues for 10-15 years, or sea level starts rising again, as it has since the last ice age. If we enter another grand minimum, with ocean cooling, the pause may continue. Only time will tell. The data indicates there is no acceleration in sea level rise, it has been consistent since the beginning of satellite measurement.

      • Exactly! Time will tell! So it’s far too early to draw such a conclusion, given that it flies in the face of the evidence when you consider the entire dataset.

Today the Bee and the Union ran a article on how Tahoe is 14 times warmer! It then says it has gained two degress in four years. How can they say that? Anyway, it was a laugh for me.
