Welcome to my new blog. I am switching gears to focus more on local issues and counter some of the misinformation being spread about like manure on corn field by our local liberal/progressive bloggers and newspaper interns.

I have been blogging since August of 2004 and enjoy writing about issues that interest me; including local politics, climate change, the distribution of misinformation by our local liberal elites and anything else that creates a rash on my brain.  Past blogs include NC Media Watch, The Dalton Minimum Returns, and Is it 2012 in Nevada County Yet. Current blogs include You Voted For It (soon to go away) and the Next Grand Minimum.

With the activation of this blog, I will retire You Voted For It on its one year anniversary , as it has not attracted the desired level of readership.  I will continue to post at a revised Next Grand Minimum as we move into the next global cooling cycle. I will also be commenting on climate change issues on this blog as they impact on the foothills and the surrounding Sierra.

This is a labor of love, I write because I like to write. My political philosophy is conservative. I am a social scientist with a systems engineering background and have difficult time with sticky gray issues mired in feel good rhetoric.

I hope that readers who come here can take away some knowledge, an idea, or a  thought they can use. I encourage comments that contribute to the discussion.

Please use your real name. This is a political blog and people must be willing to stand up for what they believe. If you cannot use your real name, then I must remove all future post, after being warned about this policy.

Please refrain from physical threats of any kind, they just waste bandwidth and bore most readers.  Readers are welcome to challenge ideas intellectually, but please leave out the physical threats.  I will start snipping comments that I think cross the line.

To reduce the comment chatter, I will be removing comments that are not relevant to the subject of the post. References to my family, including my wife, children and grandchildren will not be tolerated and will be removed, with a warning to the author. Continued abuse, will result in banishment from commenting on this blog.

If your would like to discuss this policy, or want to comment without attribution just e-mail me at rwsteele(at)gmail.com

  1. Just found your blog. I thought I was the only “climate follower” in our area! I began to study it seriously about 5 years ago. I am so glad you are doing this. We are on the same page. My husband and I are alarmed at the direction CA is going ( he is 5th generation NC) We live outside of Placerville area for 35 years. Are you related to Jim Steele? Love his book. Hope you write back.

Hi Candis. Welcome to my blog. To the best of my current knowledge, Jim Steele and I are not directly related. However, Ancestry keeps coming up with surprises, people claiming to be part of the family. I like his book and follow his columns published at Watts Up With That. We went to Apple Hill this week and talking one of the grower fruit maturity is about two weeks behind where it should be. This confirms the 14% reduction in Growing Degree Days for the Sierra Foothills. Please add your voice to the comments.

Today’s article in The Union bears inclusion in your “You Voted For It” blog as a postscript to the most recent post there.
